Description: Although it was officially launched in 2021, the history of the reference 116589TBR technically starts in 2019, when Rolex unveiled its yellow gold counterpart (ref. 116588TBR) and first debuted the “Eye of the Tiger” design for the Daytona collection. With that in mind, Rolex’s history of producing ultra-lavish and in-your-face Daytona watches inspired by big jungle cats significantly pre-dates the various “Eye of the Tiger” models.

This bedazzled Cosmograph Daytona is designed in a 40mm 18k white gold case and gem-set bezel surrounding a black-lacquered dial with white gold and diamonds. It features a wavy structure on the surface (reminiscent to a Tiger’s fur) and the index has factory-set diamonds with 18k white-gold hour marker surroundings. Even among the 243 diamonds on the dial, the timeless sub-dials of the Daytona are still immediately noticeable, with thick black borders and luscious white gold interiors. It is housed on an Oysterflex strap with an 18k white-gold folding clasp.

Rolex Daytona 116588TBR is objectively, one heck of a watch both in its execution - there’s a reason why you don’t see invisibly set baguette- or trapeze-cut diamond bezels that often - and in its daring looks. Rolex is considered to stand above others by so many for a vast variety of reasons, from reliability and engineering through history, design, and marketing. But there are other elements as well, a certain air of carefully engineered mysteriousness - which admittedly might irk those of us who want to know and understand it all, but it sure as hell attracts countless others.
